A Concentration Camp for The Animals
This is one of the most disgusting animal abuse and neglect cases I have ever ran across. A mother intentionally starving and not just killing but torturing animals to death and having her minor children help her by holding them for her as she tortured and kill them. Sharon McDonough, 43, in Selden, Long Island, New York, is out on $100k bond for crimes against animals, a felony indictment may be issued for her.
The story unfolded on November 2nd, 2009 when Rescue Ink acted on a tip they received on their tip line. The tip came in from Sharon's 21-year old son Doug McDonough. Rescue Ink went to the home and found bones of animals in the backyard. In the home were animals living in cages and skin and bones. Living in horrible conditions. About twenty animals buried in the back yard with duct tape on their mouths and signs of torture. According to Sharon's son Doug, Sharon had the children go find animals to being them to the home to be tortured. Officials believe this may be where some of the missing animals in the area ended up.
Reports show that Sharon has lost custody of her children previously and this is not the first time she has faced animal cruelty and neglect charges.
A good example of why people who abuse and neglect animals are poison in our society and humans in their lives usually endure abuse as well.
Grand Theft?
There is a trend out there that many folks are unaware of. The trend of people being allowed to abuse and neglect their pets and when someone steps in for the animal they are charged with trespassing, theft and lord knows what other charges.
I ran across the story of Troy A. Jackson, 36, who is an animal advocate associated with a Boise-based animal rescue group for over a decade. He has been charged with Grand Theft from Jefferson County, Idaho for helping a dog and her puppies.
Little Brown Dog (LBD) Deserves Justice
She has been named Little Brown (LBD) Dog by the care takers at UT’s College of Veterinary Medicine. A terrier mix that is just over a year old that survived a nightmare event on November 3rd, 2009. Knoxville Police Department Animal Control Unit brought LBD after they arrested a man, Jimmy Lovell. Lovell was seen by bystanders dragging LBD behind his pickup truck. The dog was seriously injured and bystanders screaming at Lovell he was dragging a dog did not stop his tirade of animal abuse. Lovell was intentionally dragging the dog for a few miles.
“There was like 15, 20, 30 other people standing out there, just hollering at him, telling him, you’re dragging a dog, just running down the street, telling him, stop, and he never would stop,” said Ron Hurst, who witnessed the incident.
“It was bad, he had blood all over (her,)” Hurst said of the dog. “It was just laying there in the seat, wasn’t even moving, looked like it was dead.”
Eventually, Lovell did stop the truck and get out to grab LBD. He only yelled at bystanders and threw the dog in the truck. Later on LBD was found tossed on the side of the road like a piece of trash. Lovell was arrested and LBD was taken in for immediate attention for her wounds.
"I saw her the night that she came in," Hodshon said. "And she has these horrible wounds all over her. You'd go up to the cage, and she comes to you. Wants to be held, even though she's been through this horrible ordeal. She's a really special dog. ... Even in horrible pain, with these horrible wounds, she still has the trust." Knoxnews.com
Memphis Animal Shelter Neglect
It is surely hard for some people to imagine that a city ran animal shelter could starve animals to death and neglect them. This is not unheard of and many city shelters are nothing but shacks of death. The animals are not properly vetted, not fed properly and little to no funding is provided for their care. There are others that are largely funded but corruption exists that stops the animals from being properly taken care of. The animal shelter in Memphis was raided after an informant that worked at the shelter provided images and information.
It has been a few weeks since this occurred but I just had not had the time to put together a post on the subject. It needs to be done to show others out there that this time of neglect can occur anywhere. A warrant was issued for the raid of the animal shelter and named two people shelter director, Ernest Alexander and Ivan Russell a field supervisor at the shelter. Three employees have been suspended with pay as well.
Alexander was hired in 2006 to run the shelter. It has came to light that Alexander was involved in neglect alligations linked to a shelter in Albuquerque, NM. Mayor Wharton of Memphis has fired Alexander. Who was raking in almost $100k a year to run the shelter that was starving animals to death and neglecting them. Three dogs were starved to death and information was given to the county Sheriffs department and this led to the warrant to raid the shelter.
It seems that top officials in government in Memphis were aware of the corruption and neglect going on at the animal shelter. They were given photographs and other evidence but it was not a big concern to them, as nothing was done.
After the raid took place and all this information flooded into the media animal activists and citizens came rushing forward angry for something to be done.

Gypsy
I want to introduce you to Gypsy.
Hard picture to look at isn't it? It devistated me the first time I ran into it. This picture haunted me for a few months. It made me cry, it made me so angry and at times I wasn't expecting it would see it in my head and cry. Little did I know that Gypsy was alive. I thought for sure this dog was dead. How could a dog survive that? I was sickened by the fact this dog had to endure such hell. It isn't fair.
One day though, I ran into her story. She had a name, Gypsy. She had a story! She was alive! She made it.
One has to ask themselves how a dog in this bad of shape can pull through and have the will to live. Yet they do. I am willing to bet 98% of the people out there would destroy this dog and say there is nothing left to save. Yet there is that little 2% of angels out there that are willing to fight like hell if the animal is willing to fight. That they all did and in the end the story is amazing. You would never know it was the same dog.
